Tübingen

At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.

At the Institute of Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) (https://www.helmholtz-munich.de/en/idm) and the German Centre for Diabetes Research (DZD e.V.), we are looking for a Postdoc (f/m/x) who works on human brain and heart development with unique biomagnetic measurements (fetal magnetoencephalography) and the influence of metabolic maternal factors.

In addition, the person is involved in the ongoing multicenter study on the effects of gestational diabetes on maternal and childhood metabolic and cognitive development. The work will take place in the group Metabolic Neuroimaging (https://www.helmholtz-munich.de/en/metabolicneuroimaging) (Head: Prof. Dr Hubert Preissl). Our institute is located at the University of Tübingen, which is one of Germany's Universities of Excellence, and provides an interdisciplinary and international environment. The workplace is Tübingen.

Your tasks

  • Plan, organize and analyze biomagnetic recordings in pregnant participants, with a focus on maternal metabolic states
  • Conduct statistical analyses and contribute to the interpretation of clinical study data
  • Actively participate in scientific publishing, including writing papers and presenting at conferences
  • Support the design of clinical studies and contribute to national and international grant applications
  • Supervise and mentor Master’s, PhD, and MD students in their research activities

Your profile

  • PhD in neuroscience, human physiology in metabolic diseases, data sciences, engineering, psychology or related fields
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing biomagnetic and/or bioelectrical data, ideally documented by first-author publications
  • Familiarity with scientific writing and grant applications (e.g. intramural, travel or third-party funding)
  • A proactive and team-oriented mindset: you enjoy working in interdisciplinary, international environments and contribute your own ideas
  • High intrinsic motivation for advancing translational research and scientific excellence
  • Excellent English communication skills; basic German (B2 or above) is a plus

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
